Tianeptine sodium salt is primarily prescribed for the treatment of depression. It works by modulating the brain's levels of certain neurotransmitters, including serotonin, glutamate, and dopamine, which are involved in mood regulation.
Unlike many other antidepressants, tianeptine sodium salt is a selective serotonin reuptake enhancer (SSRE), meaning it increases the reuptake of serotonin in the brain. This unique mechanism distinguishes it from selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and other classes of antidepressants.
