Pracetam is a pyrrolidone brain metabolism improving drug, as well as a central nervous drug. It has the ability to improve memory, anti amnesia and promote brain alertness and was developed by American Parke Davis pharmaceutical company. Experiments have shown that it has a significantly higher activity in comparison with both piracetam and olacetam, being 6-13 times and 3-4 times as active respectively. The activity of pracetam has been found to be 1.25 times that of aniracetam, with low toxicity and a good tolerance rate. It is suitable for long-term usage and can help improve symptoms, delay Alzheimer's dementia and is used clinically for both the prevention of senile dementia (Alzheimer's disease) and to enhance memory. Pracetam is also used as an additive for health care products.
