2-Methylimidazole is an intermediate of the drug metronidazole and the feed growth promoting agent dimethoprim, as well as a curing agent for epoxy resins and other resins. As a medium temperature curing agent for epoxy resin, it can be used alone, but mainly as a curing promoter for powder forming and powder coating. It is hygroscopic, soluble in water, alcohol, and insoluble in benzene. Irritating and corrosive to the skin and mucous membranes. This product is used for the synthesis of metronidazole and dimethazole, and is also a curing agent for epoxy resins.
